Just to let you know we very much enjoyed our stay at Dar Doughri and loved Essaoiura - it was just what we needed after 3 hectic very hot days in Marrakesh. Your place was perfect with so much space and we loved the breakfast on the terrace in the morning sunshine. Karima was lovely and provided huge amounts of food for breakfast! Helen McCaul
Sorry to take so long getting back to you - we had a lovely stay in Essaouira - Karima cooking was amazing - Fouad was helpful but a little elusive. One Essaouira recommendation we have apart from the excellent camels is the cooking course next to Take 5 (or something like that) - Guy is a patisserie one and thoroughly enjoyed. Also the Riad in Marrakesh was amazing newly opened again with two fabulously cooks - http://www.riad-almoulouk.ch/ and very centrally located but no swimming pool. Mia Potter
We really enjoyed our stay in Morocco and especially Essaouira. The house was very comfortable, Fouad was very helpful and Karima made us some memorable meals. As we had been to Essaouira before, we took it very easy and just enjoyed the atmosphere of the Medina, the fishing port and the skalas. The silversmith in the Centre Artisanale just inside Bab Marrakech made us a beautiful filigree pendant to order. On other days, we relaxed on the roof terrace while the children enjoyed horse riding and dune buggy outings.
The recently opened branch of the Moroccan supermarket chain 'Essawak Essalam' is a few minutes from the Dar by 'petit taxi' and we found it to be very well stocked, albeit without alcohol.
Best regards, Mairead and Hans Drangsfelt
Thank you for letting us use Dar Doughri. We had an excellent stay. It was the other end of the spectrum to our visit to Marrakech. We were greeted efficiently and warmly by our hosts, the Dar was spotlessly clean and Karima's food was outstanding.
We owe you for the extra day. Please let us know how much this will be.
We have no criticism or complaint at all. The service provided and the information was all first rate.
If we were to give any suggestions for improvements then perhaps we could have done with a little more guidance with regard to tipping. We tipped Karima at each meal but as we left Fouad asked us for a tip. We had not expected this and had used up all of our Dihram in anticpation of being unable to change them back to pounds. All we had with us of any use was a few Euros. I hope that he was not insulted. Perhaps being forewarned might have avoided this issue.
Thank you once again for your help and support particulary with the early transfer from Marrakech Best wishes, Mark Smith
I just wanted to say that we thought the accommodation was fantastic. We all had a lovely relaxing time. It was quite windy the first couple of days but the last full day we had in Essaouira was gorgeous and the waves were perfect for surfing. My six year old foster daughter loved the dvd's and she almost left with the Mr Men one!. Foaud and Karima were very welcoming and helpful. Thanks again.Enjoy your trip.Kind regardsJules, Kelly and Paige (April 2010)
"A fantastic family home, just perfect for us, everything just fell into place immediately. Fiona is so helpful, she arranged a straightforward pick up from Marrakech. So many touches in the dar were appreciated - books, dvds, games.....Karima's cooking was fantastic, we stayed for 4 nights and ate in 3 times - we tried fish, chicken and lamb, all superb and beautifully served. We went camel trekking, swimming and ate lots of seafood and ice cream! Dar is in a fantastic location and exceptional value. If you're looking for a different side to Morocco and Marrakech, it's here. We will be returning!"

"Cannot recommend restaurants for evening dining since as soon as we realised how good Karima's home cooking was, we monopolised her for the whole week! At lunchtimes we tried a variety of cafes, though felt the fish stalls overpriced. The italian icecream parlour place was well patronised. We all enjoyed the Hammam baths and various treatments, and riding in the horse carriages delighted Jacob. There was a cultural festival on during our stay involving groups of rather ancient soldiers and drum-banging, dancing and crowd participation - but had been warned by Nour to beware of possibility of thieves coming into town with the festival, so only observed the fringes of it. We loved the photography opportunities, especially at the harbour. Anna busy making a photo book this week...
The wind was very strong for windsurfing or kitesurfing the week we were in Essourira, but at a different time of year these would have been great activities for the lads. Most days the beach was not too windy, though, for sandcastles and paddling.
In terms of house safety for children, we were very happy with all the arrangements.Yes, the car seat was produced, clearly not a frequently used feature and took a little time at the airport to get it installed into the vehicle effectively, but fine otherwise and both taxi drivers very pleasant and drove well, and the organiser of the taxis also came to the house the day before our return to check all well, and on the day we left too. At the airport no difficulty at all finding our taxis." Jane Cunningham and family (April 2010)

Thank you for asking how our holiday went. It was fantastic. The Dar Doughri was a real treat. We never imagined it to be that huge! It's well maintained, well equipped and very homely. Furthermore the location is perfect, just a short walk to the Medina. It's nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the Medina especially after spending the whole day there and come back to a very peaceful Dar Doughri. We especially love the rooftop terrace, so much privacy as there are no other buildings over looking it. We had all out breakfast prepared by Karima up there. We absolutely love the Dar Doughri and have recommended it to all our friends. Karima was very pleasant to have around and we thoroughly enjoyed her cooking.
Though a little shy, she is ever so polite and cheerful. Foaud was very helpful too and often offered a brief history and cultural information about Morocco whenever he pops by.

"Thank you so much for everything in Essaouira. We really appreciated to stay in your fabulous accomodation with our "three-generation-family". The evenings on the roofterrace were fantastic, the pastilla organized by Fouad was marvellous and Karima and her little son were so kind.
Absolut empfehlenswert !

"The dar is clean and spacious with plenty of bathrooms and a lovely sheltered roof terrace for sun bathing and relaxing. The kitchen is extremely well equipped too. There's much hilarity to be had with Karima, who speaks no English and only a little French, if you take a Moroccan Arabic phrase book, and engage her in conversation as she prepares a delicious meal. Foad was fantastically helpful ...."

"Dar Doughri is perfect for a peaceful retreat, lovely roof terrace and Karima's food is delightful as is she and very unobtrusive. Fouad is very helpful and reliable and the morning trip he organised was good and the driver very informative. The house file is very helpful and all the listed restaurants were a great help. "
(Ian and friends, April 2009)
"The dar itself was marvellous, well equipped and spacious, with sufficient privacy and giving
us all the peace and quiet that we required to relax at the end of the days
adventures. I think we will all probably visit again - certainly I will. "

“Fouad (we called him Mr Fixit) was readily available when needed….we found him also very friendly and courteous. We felt the Dar was also ideally situated for us in Essaouira. In short Dar Doughri ticked all of our boxes.”

We had a wonderful holiday, weather a bit mixed but we expected that for January. The house is fantastic and we would certainly come back.Karima is a great asset and this helped add to holiday. The town is very accessible and with a 4 year old walking was very easy. We hired bikes but you are a bit limited needing to stay within town limits due to traffic and Ronan on back of bike! Camel ride was brilliant and we went to marrakech for one night also brilliant. Taros was a big hit with Ronan, he loved the music
“We had a great time in your house which is fantastic. We loved the sun and breakfasts on the terrace and the fact we could make fire in the evening, best of both worlds really...
We had a great time Essaouira and overall a great holiday. I could not honestly find anything that went wrong.” (Jerome, January 2009)
“Dar Doughri was fabulous… we awoke to brilliant sunshine and a fantastic breakfast up on the sun terrace Karima is a star. Fouad & Nourdine were very helpful and managed to answer all our queries you have a good team out there, Karima made us breakfast most mornings and on our last evening cooked a fantastic vegetarian couscous and tagine.” (Alison,January 2009)
“We really had a lovely time in Dar Doughri and would definately recommend it to others.
It all worked out really well, from the cars, to Fouad meeting us and Karima doing the breakfasts and the Berber style tagine. She is lovely, we realised a little late that she didn;t speak much french, but we managed to work out most things.” (Philippa, December 2008)
“Thanks Fiona, indeed we had a wonderful time. The Dar was lovely and an ideal home for us to explore Essouira. Foaud was very helpful in organising things for us - we enjoyed the quad biking, camel riding, horse riding and looking around the town - the maps were really useful thanks. We were really lucky with the weather and had sun all week so made full use of the lovely roof terrace. ! I tried to find the Hammam you recommended in the folder but we couldn't find it. We'd definitely love to return to Essouira and Dar Doughri in the future and I will certainly be recommending it to friends.” (Sophie, November 2008)
“Dar Doughri is a beautiful and comfortable house and you have decorated it really nicely. Unfortunately we had very bad weather – you may have heard of floods etc in other parts of Morocco. It rained a lot and was quite cold.
(Helen Oct 2008)
"The house was lovely, it was perfect, Fouad was very helpful and we really appreciated all that he did. The Dar is located perfectly we thought with what we wanted to get out of the holiday! We went camel riding along the beach, horse riding to the village 'Jimmy hendrix' and some of us spent a morning quad biking through the sand dunes! Also spent time in the Medina, went out for a meal at one of the recommended places. "(Rebecca, Sept 2008)

"The house was excellent. We found in roomy & comfortable for the 5 of us. We particularly liked the roof terrace which we used every day! For us it made the house & the holiday." (John August 2008)
“We had an absolutely wonderful time in Morocco – thank you so much! The house, location, everything is amazing! Thank you again, Olivia and friends” (August 2008)
“Both Essaouira and your house are beautiful …we feel spoilt having had such lovely accommodation to relax back in after a hard days shopping/surfing/tanning/quading! Love Belinda and sisters.” (August 2008)
"We loved the Dar especially the roof terrace. It was so nice to have the space as we are often cooped up on holiday so that nerves can get frayed. In this case we even played scrabble together in harmony... Again thanks for a great stay. I would like to return sometime." Christine and family (July 2008)
“We had a wonderful time in Dar Doughri. It was interesting for me to be a 'guest' because I have had my own flat on Owners Direct - FR2228 for the last year. We had a GREAT TIME and I would have NO reservation about recommending your clean, pleasant and well situated house. With my very best regards, Sally and family.” (July 2008)
"We had a fabulous stay in Dar Doughri. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed taking in the huge views of Essaouira from the roof terrace. Great for sunbathing too as it is not over-looked! Every adventure we had was only a short walk away - it was lovely not to have to use a car to get around. The local pools were a bit chilly and a wetsuit is definitely needed at this time of year in the sea but we had some great beach walks to the camels. Cant wait to visit again." (Bridget, June 2008)
"We had a lovely time over the break. The house was great. particularly liked it because it was simply furnished and seemed to be ‘authentic’ and tasteful and it was clean. It was great that the transport was arranged for us to and from Marrakech and also that they had some basic food for us in the apartment. We had been recommending the place to friends and my husband mentioned it in a newspaper article he wrote so hopefully that has helped with bookings. Regards Kate and family." (July 2007)
